Verses: Daniel 1:1-5, 8
Most of the time, we fail because we want to be like everyone. If we want to excel, let us not seek to be like others…
Among many young men that had been deported to Babylon, only four of them determined to be different. They were “without blemish, of good appearance and skillful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding learning…” (Daniel 1:4). Only four among many decided to be different and we don’t know anything about the others because there is nothing to learn from them.
Daniel purposed in his heart to not defile himself with the king’s food (verse 8). He asked that they serve them vegetables and water instead of the King’s food.
Every time we decide to be different, God covers us with His favour. God gave Daniel favour in the sight of the chief of eunuchs and when it was time to test them, they were better than all the youth who ate the King’s food (verse 14).
We see many people in the bible who decided to be different:
Hebrews 11:24 says “By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter”. He was a prince, but he decided to renounce that position. He spent 40 years in the desert without hearing the voice of God, with no direction and one ordinary day, he met God through a burning bush…That’s why when Israel was in front of the red sea and everyone was blaming Moses, he was able to tell the people “Fear not, stand firm… For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again” (Exodus 13:14). Because He remembered the God of the impossible, the God of the burning bush.
Ruth was different from Orpah…she took a decision to follow Naomi, she chose the God of Naomi (Ruth 1:6-17) and she became one of the ancestors of Jesus.
Let us not seek to be like everyone else. The people of Israel asked for a king, because they wanted to be like others. They were tired of being led by God. And despite God explaining to them all the things that a king would do to them, they insisted.
Can you decide to be different? Maybe you are wondering in which area you should be different. The Holy Spirit will tell you.
God honors those who honor Him.
If you take this as a message coming from God, your life will be different
